Impact Partner: Earth Energy Education
ORIT has an ambition to inspire the next generation by teaching them about renewable energy and why it is important to the world they will grow up in. The company understands it has a unique opportunity to create impact by using its sites and engineers as valuable teaching resources. ORIT has partnered with Earth Energy Education ('EEE'), an organisation that specialises in educational site visits and school workshops to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists and foster a passion for renewable energy.
In 2025,
- 300+ students in years 3 - 6 from 7 primary schools local to Abbotts, Chisbon and Westerfield Solar Farms benefitted from this years' workshops. The students developed a positive and confident attitude towards STEM subjects, building curiosity and enjoyment in science and techology. They also felt empowered to take care of the environment and gained understanding on how their actions can help the planet, including how renewable energy supports climate solutions
- 140+ students in years 4-6 from 5 local primary schools to Abbotts, Chisbon and Westerfield Solar Farms benefitted from this years' site visits. The students were able to see a working renewable energy site in their local community, helping them to connect classroom to real place and people. They also learnt about how solar energy works through hands-on activities, and began to explore how people use renewable energy in everyday life, including an early understanding of the different jobs involved
The participating students, years three to six, learnt about renewable energy sources and how they work, the environmental benefits, and the efforts made to support biodiversity on the sites. As part of the programme from, the students were invited to participate in interactive sessions on electricity generation, encouraging greater engagement with the subject.
ORIT’s impact delivered:
- Sustainability-focused education programme with climate change understanding
- Enhanced relationships with the community that ORIT operates in
- Connections, understanding and pride towards the solar farms ORIT owns
- Education of future consumers to appreciate the value of ORIT's business
- Pride with OEGen employees, enabling them to share skills and expertise
- Contribution to renewable energy education to upskill the future workforce and meet national employement needs
- Increased student awareness of the ecological and climate benefits of solar farms
Activities such as these provide young students with real-world exposure to renewable energy technology, sparking curiosity and interest in the behind-the-scenes workings of the sector. By understanding how renewable energy works and why it is important from a young age, ORIT hopes to inspire the next generation of leaders to incorporate sustainable practices in their future lifestyle or pursue careers in the renewable energy sector. Efforts like this can also help mitigate “climate anxiety” in younger generations. Learning about how renewable energy works and the potential careers in the sector can help the students see how much progress is being made to mitigate climate change and understand how they can help in the future. The workshops and site visits provide the students with a practical understanding of renewable energy and its challenges, inspiring future generations to contribute to a sustainable planet.
